Spice Bai
My name is Jor-Dawn, and I am the owner of Spice Bae.I graduated culinary school at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo when I was 18. I was a chef for about a decade, in Victoria, Vancouver, and Nanaimo.
Spice Bae was established in 2021 after a workplace injury which left my dominant hand permanently injured when a mason jar shattered in my hands.
I have always been passionate about local, organic ingredients as well as sustainability in the food economy. To me, that means, making hot sauces that will elevate your meals with well balanced flavours and heat sourced from our abundance of local farmers on the Island.
Spice Bae isn’t just about heat, it’s about sustainably sourcing and community. I love connecting with local farmers, packaging suppliers, and my customers. I am always happy to answer questions and chat and offer up hot sauce tasters.
Spice Bae has been a huge part of my journey in recovery, as well. I am a recovering alcoholic and addict and have been sober since September 1st, 2023. Since getting sober, I have been able to really turn my dreams into a reality with this business. It has grown exponentially and I have accomplished many of my career goals during this time and continue to accomplish them.
Come find me at a market sometime and let’s chat about spicy things!
